【📝概述】

【📝Brief intro】

🇮🇹 Another incredible wine from Romano @enotecaitalianaparigi . I’ve tried many wines from Donnafugata @donnafugatawine which is an incredible estate, and I wanted to try what is considered their best red and a top-level Nero d'Avola.

First and as usual with Donnafugata the label is beautiful, a reference to the Arabian nights. Regarding the wine, grapes come from vineyards located at an altitude of 200-400m, vines are planted on gentle hills.

Climate: Mild winters followed by windy warm and dry summers with a good diurnal range. The harvest is carried out manually with a very strict selection of the best grapes.

Vinification: Fermentation in stainless steel and maceration on the skins for 12 days at a temperature of 28 - 30° C (82 -86° F).

Maturation: 13-14 months in new French oak barriques and then in the bottle for at least 24 months.

【🍇Grapes & ABV】

Nero d'Avola, Petit Verdot, Syrah and other grapes, 13.5% ABV.

【👀To the eye】

Deep ruby.

【👃Nose】

Pronounced aromas of black fruits like blackberry, blackcurrant, plum, forest fruits, cranberry, black pepper, liquorice, vanilla, tobacco, cigar box, cocoa and hint of leather.

【👅Palate】

Pronounced aromas similar to the nose with a long finish on spices and cigar. Medium+ tannin, high acidity, medium alcohol, full body.

The wine is dry, still has perceptible tannins which remain quite smooth/silky and everything is in balance thanks to a very crispy acidity and extremely complex and concentrated aromas. It’s dry, elegant, fruity, and spicy. Fruits are fresh and not cooked or jammy as can happen sometimes with Nero d’Avola. Beautiful!

【🍷 Conclusion】

Not your average Sicilian red wine, it almost reminds me of a Chianti or something coming from further north…The blend with other grapes brings lots of complexity and structure. Overall an incredible wine, a next-level Nero d’Avola to me.
