【📝Brief intro】
🇪🇸 2 fantastic wines were sent to me as a gift by my friend Marta who works for the estate “A Coroa” located in the DO Valdeorras in Galicia, Spain.
A Coroa is one of the most famous and oldest estates there, established in 1750. They started a new project in 2002 resulting in the complete modernization of the estate. They are specialized in the production of wine from Godello (a white grape variety), not as famous as the Albarino from the neighbor Rias Baixas, but which I think deserves recognition since it can produce exquisite, fruity, floral and very well-structured wines.
Second wine: A COROA Ladeira Vella 2017 - DO Valdeorras, Galicia, Spain.
Actually, A COROA doesn’t only make white wine from Godello, but they also produce red wine from the Garnacha Tintorera variety (also known as Alicante Bouschet), one of the few teinturier grapes (with red flesh!). The Garnacha is cultivated on a plot named named “O Rasedo”, the oldest and smallest plot of the estate, at 380 m above ground level, with vines over 80/90 years old. it’s a small production of fewer than 3000 bottles. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
Maturation: 12 months in 225 liters French oak barrels.

【👀To the eye】
Deep ruby with purple hints.
【👃Nose】
Pronounced aromas of black plum, blackcurrant, cherry, violet, cinnamon, liquorice, cloves, cedar, and earth.
【👅Palate】
Pronounced aromas similar to the nose with lot of spices and black fruits aromas which stand out. A long smooth finish on the spices. Medium tannin, Medium+ acidity, full body, high alcohol. This wine is incredibly smooth! It’s like silk in the mouth, aromas from oak and tannins are perfectly integrated, it’s elegant, subtle, balanced, spicy, with very fresh acidity. A wonderful experience.
【🍷 Conclusion】
Incredible Garnacha Tintorera, I’m not familiar with this grape variety, and I must say I was really impressed. It has power and elegance at the same time combined with a perfect structure. A must-try!
