【📝概述】

【📝Brief intro】

🇫🇷 Incredible visit to the Chateau Figeac, one of the most famous and largest wine estates in Saint-Émilion, comprising 54 hectares in one block, of which 41 hectares are vineyards. Saint-Émilion wines are usually dominated by Merlot, but Figeac wine tastes more like the wines of Médoc and Graves due to its soil, which is dominated by gravel, and therefore is planted in grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon (35%), Cabernet Franc (35%), and Merlot (30%).

The Chateau originates from an ancient estate that traces its roots back to the 2nd century when a Gallo-Roman villa was built on the estate and named after the Figeacus family. In the late 18th century, the property was close to 200 hectares in size but was sold and subdivided several times in the 19th century until 1892, when Henri de Chevremont bought it.

In the 20th century, one of the key figures in the domain was Thierry Manoncourt who took over the running of Château-Figeac in 1947. it is thanks to him that the estate will find itself on the front of the stage of Saint Emilion. After the passing of Thierry Manoncourt, his widow, Marie-France Manoncourt, has took over the estate and organized the construction of new cellars over 3 years, between 2018 and 2021 which we could visit with my wife, and they are magnificent.

⭐ We had the chance to taste their wine, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2011 (Premier Grand Cru Classé), with notes of dark fruits (black cherry, blackberry), green bell pepper, licorice, cigar/tobacco, leather, graphite, earth, tannins are soft, well integrated, full-bodied and a still a fresh acidity. Just beautiful.
