【📝Brief intro】

🇪🇸 I love Toro wines as they are usually powerful, rich and intense. This one is really one of my favorites and doesn’t disappoint.

Dominio del Bendito is a project from a 🇫🇷 French winemaker called Antony Terry who settled in Toro in 2004, as he thought he could make wonderful wine there. When you taste the result, you know he was right!

Grapes come from a vineyard called Páramo de la Jara located 700m above sea level made of sand with boulders. The vines are trained in the traditional ‘en vaso’ style and are more than 50 years old, planted ungrafted as they are free from phylloxera (certainly due to the sandy soils which are not suitable for phylloxera to strive). The vineyard is managed organically with dry farming (no irrigation) and minimum intervention.

Fermentation and maceration: Carried out in small concrete tanks with epoxy (from 3000 to 6400 liters), between 20 to 28 days.

Maturation: 14 months in new and old French (80%) and American (20%) barrels. Bottled with no clarification.

【🍇Grapes & ABV】

100% Tinta de Toro (known also as Tempranillo in Rioja for instance), 15% ABV.

【👀To the eye】

Deep ruby with purple hints.

【👃Nose】

Complex with pronounced aromas of violet flowers, very ripe cherries, plum, blackberry, blueberry, dried herbs, earth, liquorice, chocolate, tobacco, spices and balsamic.

【👅Palate】

Pronounced and concentrated aromas similar to the nose. Medium+ tannin, medium acidity, high alcohol, full body. Very long persistent finish. It’s really juicy, unctuous and powerful, tannins are already quite soft but you can still feel them, notes from oak are already integrating letting the very ripe fruity aromas express themselves. It’s really good.

【🍷 Conclusion】

Incredible wine to me, super complex, powerful and elegant at the same time. I think it can be drunk now but should improve with some bottle aging to let the tannins soften more and let the oaky notes integrate themselves.
