【📝Brief intro】

🇫🇷 Located in the heart of Occitania, not far from the Mediterranean Sea, the Cave de l'Ormarine was born from the union of 5 cooperative cellars in Southern France: Pinet, Villeveyrac, Cournonterral, Vias and Saint Hippolyte du Fort. Following the various mergers, Ormarine benefits from a very extensive supply zone from the Cévennes to the Mediterranean.

It produces both white grape varieties that benefit from the maritime influence of the Etang de Thau and red or rosé grape varieties from clay-limestone soils and red sandstone with lower yields.

Located north of the Etang de Thau, the terroir for this wine is mainly made up of clay-limestone plateaus. The proximity of the Etang and the Mediterranean Sea as the different winds like the Tramontane all play a role of the thermal regulator in this otherwise quite hot region.

100% Picpoul,

13% ABV.

【👀To the eye】

Pale lemon.

【👃Nose】

Pronounced aromas of lemon, lemon curd, citrus, lime, green apple, pear, wet stone/flint, white pepper, hints of jasmine, and white flowers.

【👅Palate】

Pronounced aromas similar to the nose, plenty of citrus and green fruits with hints of spices and floral flavors. Dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, light body. Wine displays pronounced aromas, a good complexity, a crisp fresh high acidity, alcohol is well integrated, the wine feels balanced and ends in a medium bitter/citrus finish. It is made to be drunk young on the freshness.

【🍷 Conclusion】

Picpoul means “stings the lip,” and it’s quite true as the wine is crisp and mineral, really dry but it’s so fresh and it just pairs so well with seafood and fish. Highly recommended considering its price.
