【📝Brief intro】
🇪🇸 We continue with visits to wineries in Rioja, and this time we stopped at the very famous Marqués de Murrieta to try some of their wines at their wine bar.
The winery was founded in 1852 by Peruvian-born Luciano de Murrieta y Garcia-Lemoine and was the first Rioja estate to export its wines. In 1872, he purchased the Castillo Ygay estate, where the wines are produced today. The firm was purchased in 1983 by Vicente Cebrián Sagarriga, and since his death has been run by his son, Vicente Dalmau Cebrián.
It’s considered by many wine critics as one of the most prestigious estates of la Rioja. We tried several of their wines and I must say that I was absolutely blown away by the quality of their Albarino from Rias Baixas, La Comtesse Albariño, as well as their Primer Rosé and their white Capellania. Overall, all the wines we tasted were wonderful. We bought a case of Ygay for my father-in-law, he knows what's good!
