【📝Brief intro】
🇪🇸 A very nice visit once more! Just after our visit to Tondonia, we walked 100m and arrived at CVNE for a visit to their winery. CVNE, Compañía Vinícola del Norte del España (the Northern Spanish Wine Company) was founded in 1879 by two brothers from the family Real de Asúa and today is still controlled by the direct descendants of the founding family.
The first wine produced by CVNE took the name of the company’s initials but a spelling error during some wine competition in France, confusing the V with a U, led to the creation of the Cune.
CVNE owns centenary brands like Cune (the original brand), Imperial (created in the 1920s and only made on the best vintages with grapes sourced from CVNE own’s vineyards at Villalba), Monopole (with a focus on fresh white wine), Contino (from stocks planted on 62 hectares located in Laserna near Laguardia in Rioja Alta) or Viña Real (grapes coming from Rioja Alavesa). They have since extended their activities to other winemaking regions of Spain like Ribera del Duero, Rueda, and Valdeorras.
We had the pleasure to taste some very good wine like the Imperial Gran Reserva, the Contino Viña del Olivo, the Contino Blanco and the Pagos de Viña Real. They were all delicious! We had a great time there with my wife.
