Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the 76th Chablis Wine Festival, and it was an experience to remember! The weather was simply perfect, with clear blue skies and a gentle autumn breeze setting the scene for outdoor wine tasting. The festival was lively and full of energy, drawing wine lovers from far and wide to the heart of Chablis.

The lineup of local producers was impressive, featuring well-known names like Domaine William Fèvre, Jean-Marc Brocard, and Domaine Droin. Tasting the 2022 and 2023 vintages was a real treat. The 2022 wines stood out for their sharp precision and freshness, while the young 2023s, even at this stage, showed promise and potential. One of the unexpected highlights for me was discovering the wines from Irancy, a small appellation southwest of Chablis. These Pinot Noir reds were a delightful surprise, offering a light, elegant contrast to the signature crisp whites of Chablis. The Irancy wines had this perfect balance of acidity and fruit, showing off a soft, airy side of Pinot Noir.

But the festival was much more than just tastings. It was packed with activities, including the ceremonial baptism of the new vintage, guided vineyard tours, and even fun events for children. The induction of new members into the Confrérie des Piliers Chablisiens was a sight to see, mixing tradition with celebration in a unique way. Walking away from the festival, glass in hand and taste buds delighted, I felt a renewed appreciation for the deep winemaking heritage of this region. The Chablis Wine Festival is truly a must for anyone looking to experience the essence of Burgundy wines.
